Salkantay and Inca trail trek 7 days to Machu Picchu, is one of our favorite trekking tours where you conquer the famous Inca Chiriaska (Frozen Inka’s pass) at 5028 m – 16,495 ft.  Experience the best Inca trail tour to the last citadel of the Incas Machu Picchu with Inca Trek Specialists.

Salkantay Inca Trail Trek

Seven-day Inca trail tours to Machu Picchu is an amazing expedition and offers adventurers a mix of Salkantay trekking and the classic Inca trail hike, combining the best of the two most popular treks of Peru. Starting on the Salkantay trail that goes through the Inca Chiriaska pass “frozen Inka’s pass” is the highest peak of the Cusco region.

This path joins with original paved Inca pathways, a variety of fascinating ancient ruins, and beautiful sceneries and continues on to Machu Picchu citadel. The 7-day Inca Trail trek is operated only with smaller groups, you get the full attention of our staff, and each traveler has a personal porter to carry your personal items so that you can enjoy your 7-day Machu Picchu hike.

Itinerary for 7 Day Salkantay Inca Trail

Day 1 Cusco – Challa cancha – Soraypampa

The tour guide will pick you up by bus from your hotel, we take a bus about 2 hours to Mollepata stopping village for breakfast. After it continues by bus to Challacancha, then start hiking to the base camp Soraypampa, where you have lunch, after climbing up to Humantay Lake and spend the night at the bottom part of Salkantay mountain

Day 2 Soraypampa – Pampa Japonesa – Sisay Pampa

After breakfast climb up for 4 hrs to Pampa Japonesa the lunch place which is right before to arrive the highest point of our trek Dead Inca’s Pass, then you have 1 hour to reach the highest point of the Inca trail tour, in order to descend to campsite Sisay Pampa the coldest night of this expedition

Day 3 Sisay Pampa – Paucarcancha

Today the views will be spectacular, after conquering the highest point you will feel completely positive and you can get a sense of why? The Incas worshiped Salkantay pass. From this campsite to the next campsite and lunch place is going to be a downhill hike, where you hike 6 hours in total to Paucar Cancha which is connected to the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Note: Give your gratitude to the horsemen after the Salkantay trekking but your chef with the assistant cook will finish the expedition with you on day 7. Tip them the last day together with the porters in Wiñay Wayna campsite.

Day 4: Paucarcancha – Llulluchapampa

Free morning to visit Paucar Cancha Inca site, after lunch we’ll make our way down the valley to join the Inca Trail at Wayllabamba village from this town we’ll switch from using mules to carry our gear to porters this is to prevent damage to the legendary Inca Trail.

The campsite for tonight is at Llulluchapampa 3800m / 12460 ft. which is the closest campsite to Dead Woman’s Pass. Climbing up to the campsite we’ll pass through various microclimates and it is the second coldest campsite of the expedition

Day 5: Llulluchapampa – Dead Woman’s Pass – Chaquicocha

After fresh Organic breakfast, we have to make our way over 2 passes. Fortunately, we camp quite close to the second-highest pass, so it’s not as hard as for most Inca trail hikers who camped in the valley far below. The landscapes today are amazing, the high mountain ranges, you visit 2 Inca sites “Runkurakay and Sayacmarca”.

You get to see a variety of plants and fauna, as you are now arriving in the area known as the cloud forest. The campsite tonight is at Chaquicocha 3600m / 11800 ft, which is one of the quieter campsites and affords beautiful views of the sun setting over the mountains in the distance.

Day 6 Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñaywayna

Start early to hike to the last pass of Phuyupatamarca. The best area to enjoy the flora and fauna of this 7-day trek. Our lunch spot will be after 3 hours downhill hike by means of many Inca steps. Phuyupatamarca and Intipata sites are a chance to explore and see every single detail about these ruins.

After lunch takes a long nap to have an extra 10 minutes of walk to the most amazing sight of the Inca trail – Winay Wayna of forever young means in English. Tonight you have a small ceremony to say thanks to your amazing porters and the last time that you see them.

Day 7: Wiñaywayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco

The highlight of the trekking of 7 days, where you head straight to the checkpoint Wiñay Wayna station to enter Machu Picchu. Once the site opens you carry on to the Sun Gate, you have the chance to be the first person to have a fantastic view of Machu Picchu citadel.

On arrival at the citadel, you’ll have a 2 hour guided tour to visit important temples of the site. After the tour, you have free time to explore the site by yourself. In the afternoon you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo where you will carry on by bus back to Cusco city
