Why Choose Us for Your Humantay Lake Hike?
- Avoiding Crowds: While most visitors flock to Humantay Lake at the same time, we pride ourselves on beating the crowds. Our early departure from Cusco at 3:00 am ensures that you’ll arrive at Humantay Lake before the masses, providing you with the opportunity to relish its beauty in tranquility. There are only a few prime spots for the iconic Humantay Lake photograph, and we ensure you have them without the hustle and bustle of large crowds.
- Safety First: Safety is paramount at high altitudes, and that’s why our guides always carry oxygen tanks. At over 4,200 meters (13,779 feet) above sea level, this extra precaution can make all the difference. Not all travel agencies provide this level of care, so it’s an important consideration when selecting your Humantay Lake tour operator.
- Intimate Group Size: We keep our groups small, with a maximum of 2 to 8 people. This sets us apart from other travel companies that cater to larger crowds. A smaller group ensures a more personalized experience, allowing you to take your time and truly immerse yourself in the hike without feeling rushed.
- Knowledgeable Guides: Our tour guides are not only friendly and attentive but also fluent in English and highly knowledgeable about all things related to Humantay Lake and Peru. They are passionate about sharing their expertise and making your experience memorable.
- Reliability: Inca Trail Specialist is renowned for being the most reliable tour operator. We take pride in our punctuality and commitment to providing you with a seamless and enjoyable journey to Humantay Lake.
Choose Inca Trail Specialist for your Humantay Lake hike and enjoy a serene and safe adventure led by experts who prioritize your experience and well-being.
Humantay Lake Tour Itinerary
Our Humantay Lake adventure begins with a prompt pickup from your hotel at 3:00 am. We’ll embark on a scenic 4-hour drive in our comfortable transport to Soraypampa, situated at an elevation of 3,850 meters above sea level. Soraypampa serves as the first-day campsite for the Salkantay trek.
Upon arrival in Soraypampa, we’ll kickstart our day with a delightful breakfast to ensure we’re energized for the upcoming trek. From Soraypampa, our hike to Humantay Lake (at 4,200 meters above sea level) begins, offering captivating vistas. On a clear day, you can even catch a glimpse of the awe-inspiring snow-capped Salkantay and Humantay peaks.
The hike to the lake is approximately 1.5 hours and is of low to moderate difficulty, a journey well worth the effort when you witness the enchanting view. Alternatively, if you prefer, horse rentals are available. At the lake, you’ll have ample time for photography, offering your offerings to the Apus (local mountain deities), and for the more adventurous, even a refreshing swim on sunny days.
After some leisure time, we’ll commence our descent back to Soraypampa, a journey of about 1.5 hours, which is considerably easier than the ascent. In Soraypampa, a delicious lunch will be awaiting us, providing a well-deserved rest before our return journey to Cusco. We aim to arrive in Cusco at approximately 5:00 pm, completing our Humantay Lake tour.

Aditional Info
Ensure you bring an ample supply of water for this hike – we recommend carrying at least 2 liters per person. Staying properly hydrated is crucial to ward off altitude sickness.
Opt for sturdy hiking shoes or boots, and leave sneakers at home. The terrain demands proper footwear.
Dress in layers and pack warm clothing, including a hat, gloves, and scarf. Weather conditions at this altitude can change swiftly, often leaning towards the cold side. However, as you hike, you’ll also generate body heat, so having the flexibility to adjust your clothing as needed is key.
Consider using a hiking stick, particularly if the trail is muddy or uneven. It provides valuable support and stability.
UV protection is paramount at higher elevations, where the sun’s impact is more intense. Wearing sunscreen is essential, especially at an altitude of 4,231 meters above sea level.
Keep in mind that restroom facilities are available only at the beginning of the hike. Make sure to use them before setting off on your trek!
